Take a look at some of our most frequently asked questions.

  • How does your delivery system work?

We use UPS worldwide express for destinations outside Ireland, and DPD for within the island of Ireland. Both UPS and DPD deliver door-to-door.

All our smoked fish products keep for three days without being chilled, which is usually the maximum time your order needs to get to its destination. The reason for this is the way the fish has been salted, smoked and vacuum-packed which preserves it so very well. So even if the pack is warm on arrival, there is no reason to be worried. Just refrigerate it on arrival, and you will be able to enjoy it in all its culinary beauty!

Our national delivery of fresh fish arrives the next day, and all of our shipments have a perishable sticker, so they will always ensure the fish is handed to you or a neighbour, and never left outside the door.

  • What days do you dispatch?

We dispatch on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays only.

  • What should I include at checkout?

Please always indicate your phone number and full postcode of your address so that the courier service can reach you if needs be.

  • How do I know when my delivery will arrive?

You will receive a dispatch note by email indicating delivery of your smoked salmon within 24–48 hours, and you will be given a tracking number which will allow you to follow progress online which we recommend.

Rarely, very rarely an order will get mislaid, delayed or even vanish once in the courier system, we have no control over this but will do our utmost to resolve the situation if it arises.

  • How is the fish packaged?

Smoked salmon sides will be sealed, vacuum packed and delivered in temperature–stable packaging. On receipt, it should be refrigerated 0–4C as soon as possible. It is possible that an odd seal may loosen during transit, but the product inside will still be good.

In the olden days when we started our mail order business in the 1960’s, there wasn’t even such a thing as a vacuum packer so we sent our smoked salmon per normal post wrapped in greaseproof paper and sometimes it took 20 days to get to its destination and the taste was still as good as ever… how times have changed!

Our fresh is also vacuum packed, to ensure freshness, and we place ice packs in too to ensure that it is kept cool.

  • How much do you charge for shipping?

Shipping by courier is charged at cost.

  • The couriers called when I was out. What now?

If you miss a delivery, it is your responsibility to call the couriers to rearrange delivery at a time that suits you. Please do not wait for the couriers to call you.
You will have the tracking number.

  • When should I order for Christmas?

You can place your order immediately and any time you want. We recommend placing your order early – ideally by the middle of November – to avoid disappointment and to take the weight of getting Christmas presents off your shoulders!

Also, for the Wild Smoked Salmon, there is only a limited quantity available. It will sell very fast, so it’s best to get your order in ASAP ?

  • Can I send your products as a gift?

Sending Fish to a loved one is a lovely idea. However, sometimes it can lead to disappointment if the recipient – unaware of the delivery – is not at home, and the parcel cannot be delivered. Remember, our smoked fish products only keep for a few days without being refrigerated.

When sending a surprise gift, please make sure you send it to an address where there is always somebody present (work place, nearby shop, always-at-home-neighbour), or that somebody close to the recipient knows about the surprise gift coming.

  • How do I pay for the fish?

You pay online through our website or over the phone at (+353) 066 947 2177

  • I have an issue with my order, who do I contact?

Customer satisfaction is at the core of our operations here at Quinlan’s Fish and we want you to be completely happy with our produce. So if you have any problem please ring us on 066 9472177 or email customer support at Fintan@quinlansfish.com

  • Do you deliver to USA or Canada?

Unfortunately, we do not deliver to these locations.

  • What is the difference between our Quinlan’s Organic Smoked Salmon and our Quinlan’s Superior Smoked Salmon?

Both fish are of a very high quality however Organic salmon is reared at sea with much fewer numbers in the pens than the superior and the organic salmon is also on a completely organic food diet.

  • What if I want my order to go ASAP?

If you missed the deadline of ordering for a particular week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), then you can order for the next available week, please add a message in ‘order notes’ section of checkout that you would like your fish ASAP and we will do our very best to accommodate you.

  • Is your fish sustainable?

Yes, we are very conscious of how we catch our fish and we adhere strictly to the guidelines laid out in order to preserve future stock, for example, number of days the boats can fish, the number of hours per day fishing, length of the net and size of the net, and catch you can take for the week. Etc. etc. This all ensures we have stocks for the following years.

  • I am ordering during the Christmas period, are delivery dates affected?

During the Christmas period standard delivery times are affected and we cannot guarantee a delivery on exactly the dates requested.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Due to the Covid 19 crisis, all couriers are experiencing an enormous increase in demand, and some delays. We monitor this situation continuously, but there will inevitably be times when parcels are held up, especially at Christmas. We will deal with this to the best of our ability, but please bear in mind we are not a courier company, and once the parcel leaves our premises, we do not have any direct control over the situation. By placing an order with us at this time you are acknowledging this risk.

We cannot be held responsible for, and will not be able to give refunds in case of, late deliveries caused by the courier service.
